Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band is excited to announce that it will be presenting the pre-World’s concert on August 13, 2025 at the Royal Glasgow Concert Hall. The annual concert is produced by The Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band.

Solas is the Gaelic world for ‘light’ and references both the cultural heritage of the music and the mining and ironwork history of the town of Shotts, which once exported so many gas lamps that the town motto was “Shotts lights the world.” Indeed, since its inception in 1910, the Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band has aimed to be a constant source of light and inspiration for the pipe band world.

Pipe-Major Emmett Conway and Lead-Drummer David Henderson will be leading the band through its first major concert since they took on leadership of the band. The band’s last concert in this venue was RISE in 2017.

“The band is working hard to deliver an entertaining evening of music to pipe band enthusiasts,” said P-M Emmett Conway. “We’re leaning into the storied history of the community and the band, and we hope to light up the night for all who attend.”

L-D David Henderson, a longtime protégé of the great Shotts lead-drummer Jim Kilpatrick, brings a wealth of experience to the North Lanarkshire band and is looking forward to his first concert as Lead Drummer of the Shotts corps.

“It’s a huge honour to lead the Shotts corps on stage” said Henderson. “The drumming tradition at Shotts is legendary, and we’re looking forward to a brilliant night of music among friends.”
