Pipe Sergeant Glenn Brown

Pipe Major Ryan Canning has confirmed his first appointment in charge of The House of Edgar Shotts & Dykehead Pipe Band. Former band member Glenn Brown has accepted the position of Pipe Sergeant in the band and joins from ScottishPower Pipe Band who were runners-up at the 2012 World Pipe Band Championships.

Ryan said “I’m absolutely delighted to announce that Gold Medallist Glenn Brown is the new Pipe Sergeant of the band. Glenn is a fantastic candidate for the job, and not only is he one of the world’s top solo pipers, but he is an experienced teacher, a veteran bandsman, and he is even a past World Champion with the Shotts band. Beyond this, Glenn and I have been friends for many years, which I think is the foundation of a great partnership. I’m really excited to work with Glenn and the team.”

Glenn is excited to be returning to the Shotts band. Speaking about his new post, Glenn said “I have really enjoyed the past four seasons with the ScottishPower Pipe Band, and I am sad to leave the band especially as they are on their way up, and I have many good friends within the band. However, the opportunity to be a part of Shotts and Dykehead again was a huge draw, and I am over the moon at the challenge that lays ahead for Ryan, myself, Jim and the team at Shotts. It feels great to be returning to the band I started with in Scotland ten years ago. I’m also really excited that my brother Graham is returning to the band, so there will be a great family connection there once again.”

Also joining Glenn in the band are piper Megan Canning and Glenn’s brother, snare drummer Graham Brown.
