Iona Burns

The Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band is delighted to announce the appointment of Iona Burns as the band’s new drum major.

After many years of dedicated service, Drum Major David Currie decided to retire from his position in the spring of 2013. David has been a stalwart member of Shotts and Dykehead and his retirement is a big loss, however, he was also instrumental in the recruitment of Iona Burns to fill the role after his departure.

Iona is one of the most talented young drum majors on the circuit today. Originally from Garelochhead and now resident in Glasgow, Iona was previously associated with the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band as well as the Dumbarton and District Pipe Band. In her 12 years of competition she has claimed 94 first place finishes, and has won the Scottish Championships, British Championships (twice), World Championships, Cowal Championships (four times), and Champion of Champions titles (four times) all at Junior and Juvenile level.

Now over 18, this year will be the first season where Iona progresses to Senior level, and Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia is delighted she will be associated with our band during this exciting point in her competitive career.
